Volunteering with Medical Missionaries

Medical Missionaries depends entirely on dedicated volunteers to support our work.  We seek to recruit and train volunteers who can assist our mission.

Volunteers will work side-by-side with Medical Missionaries Board Members and other volunteers who are currently doing this work, gradually assuming more responsibility for the tasks.

Volunteering Opportunities

Mission Trips and Disaster Relief

Mission Trips:  Medical Missionaries organizes and sponsors a variety of trips including medical, surgical, dental, educational and construction/maintenance to places that need their services.  More information on trips as well as an FAQ.

Office Support

Accounting:  The ideal candidates will have experience in using QuickBooks to track Income and Expenses.  Volunteers will be responsible for entering Income and Expense information into QuickBooks, generating invoices, preparing monthly and quarterly reports, and flagging to the President any entries that seem unusual. These volunteers report directly to the Medical Missionaries President. Work can be performed at Medical Missionaries headquarters in Manassas, Virginia, or remotely.

Data Entry:  Volunteers help with data entry, maintaining/updating mailing lists, and assist in other areas as needed.

Warehouse Support & Donations Of Clothing/Supplies

Pick Up and Delivery of Donated Items:  Volunteers assist with picking up/delivering supplies that are donated to Medical Missionaries. The ideal candidates will have their own vehicles, preferably a pick-up truck. Most pick-ups and deliveries will be in the Northern Virginia/District of Columbia area. These Volunteers should reside in the Northern Virginia/DC area.

Warehouse Support:  Volunteers sort donations of medical supplies, medicines, and other supplies, and work in teams to load sea containers for shipment overseas.

Fundraising / Special Events / Grantwriting

Volunteers will help our fundraising efforts, including: overseeing and supporting the main annual fundraising campaign; preparing quarterly reports to supporters on the domestic and international accomplishments of Medical Missionaries; overseeing targeted crowd-funding campaigns for specific projects; and assisting with special events.

We also seek volunteers with grantwriting experience to identify potential grantmakers, lead efforts to write and submit proposals for grants, and follow up with any reports required by the grantmaker. These Volunteers should reside in the Northern Virginia/DC area

Online Outreach, Social Media & Website

Social Media: Volunteers will administer the Medical Missionaries website, soliciting content from program administrators and volunteers in the U.S. and abroad; administer our Facebook page and other social media that Medical Missionaries engages in (e.g., LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), and help maintain online profiles. The ideal candidates will have experience managing one or more social media sites, and have the ability to optimize images for upload. Work can be performed remotely.

Program Oversight And Assessment

Volunteers will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on a variety of Medical Missionaries programs, especially in conjunction with our Clinic in Haiti. (Programs include the Clinic itself, water purification, fortified salt, childhood nutrition, maternal and infant care, dental hygiene, and community health centers.)

Most oversight can be done remotely, based on monthly reports that are compiled and submitted for each program. Periodic assessment of the programs (“How well are we doing?”) is based on review of the data for those programs over a 12-month period. The ability to travel to Haiti once a year might be beneficial to facilitate the oversight of the programs.
