2019 President’s Message

Annual President’s Message 2019

Once again, the annual Medical Missionaries report to donors is upon us. This year has been a successful one with the variety of our programs and the number of people we have been able to serve, while at the same time challenging due to the limited resources at our disposal. We have maintained our efforts serving the less fortunate in the United States and abroad.

In the United States, Medical Missionaries continues ongoing support of the Rock Lick Food Pantry in Appalachia, helping the poor of southwestern Virginia and West Virginia as well as eastern Kentucky. We continue with biweekly shipments of clothing and household supplies to hamlets west of Elkins, WV as well as the distribution of healthcare supplies to individuals in greater metropolitan DC.

Internationally, eight sea containers of healthcare supplies and equipment were sent to poor countries to aid in healthcare infrastructure. Recipient countries include Congo, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Laos, Cameroon, and Jamaica. Medical Missionaries has also supported other medical groups with supplies and equipment, making it possible for them to travel throughout the world to help the poor.

We continue to support St. Joseph Clinic in Thomassique, Haiti. The hospital was built by Medical Missionaries and is now in its 13th year of operation. This year the Haitian national electric grid has finally reached Thomassique, and hopefully, the hospital will soon be connected to the grid.

In January, we introduced a monthly email newsletter which has helped our donors to be informed of our work in a more timely manner. Our website www.medicalmissionaries.org has been updated, and we have developed a stronger social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. All of these help us to better communicate how we are fulfilling our mission statement of helping the poorest of the poor here in the United States and abroad.  Please fill out this form to receive our monthly newsletter.

Your donations have helped us sustain the efforts listed above, and they are greatly needed for us to continue this work. 99% of your donations go directly to serving the poor both here in the US and abroad. We would very much appreciate  and need your continued support.  Donate online through our website, or you can mail your donation directly to our office, 9590 Surveyor Ct., Manassas, VA 20110.

We would also be happy to speak with you about a legacy donation from a will, an estate, or a retirement fund which will help to increase our endowment and maintain support for Medical Missionaries and our work serving the poorest of the poor well into the future. You can call 703-335-1800 or email info@medicalmissionaries.org for more information.

God bless you and your family for considering support and sacrifice for the very poor.

Sincerely,

Gilbert R Irwin, MD President, Medical Missionaries
