Mid-Summer Mission Update: Busy Days & Grateful Hearts
Despite the arrival of summer—which typically brings lighter office staffing and oppressive heat—the Manassas office has been buzzing with activity. The need in our community continues to grow, and more people than ever are seeking our help. A typical day brings a steady stream of individuals and groups coming through our doors, whether they are seeking vital medical supplies and advice or generously dropping off donations to support our efforts.
Speaking of generosity, we want to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and bid in our Caring Hearts Auction! The event was a success, and we are incredibly appreciative of your support. We hope for your continued partnership as we move forward with our summer mission!
Good News: A Heartfelt Thank You from UVA Community Health!
Medical Missionaries is proud to share a wonderful note of appreciation we recently received from UVA Community Health for our participation in their grant program. We are incredibly honored to partner with them in this mighty effort to improve local health outcomes together.
In their note, the UVA Health team shared:
“Congratulations, and thank you for your partnership during the FY2025 Grant Cycle. Through your UVA Health-funded project and/or program, you have helped improve the health of our community by addressing identified priority health needs. We are grateful for your dedication and the meaningful impact your work has made.”
This partnership is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together, and we are deeply grateful for UVA Community Health’s vital support in helping us fulfill our mission.
Expanding Care: Introducing Pap Smear Screenings at St. Joseph Clinic
Every week, Medical Missionaries volunteers in the US meet with the dedicated staff at St. Joseph Clinic to stay connected, review operations, and determine how we can best support their continued success. In addition to our two full-time physicians, the clinic staff includes two “social doctors”—recently licensed physicians completing their residency training.
Our two social doctors have proposed a vital new initiative: introducing regular pap smear screenings at the clinic. At a cost of less than $20 per person, this program will allow the clinic to screen the local population and better understand the prevalence of cervical cancer in the community.
As we plan for this program, our weekly conversations have naturally turned to next steps: What happens when a patient tests positive? Our goal is to ensure seamless, end-to-end care. We are currently seeking $4,500 in funding support to launch this initiative and ensure that any woman who tests positive can receive the vital follow-up testing and care she needs. Your support can help turn early detection into life-saving outcomes.
Global & Local Impact: Sending Hope Across the World and at Home
Our mission to provide medical supplies, food, and relief knows no borders. Thanks to your support, our volunteers have been working tirelessly to prepare and deliver shipments to communities in desperate need—both globally and right here in the US.
- Jamaica: In response to ongoing disaster recovery efforts, Medical Missionaries recently sent two major shipments of food and relief supplies to Jamaica to aid local teams working on the ground.
- Cameroon, West Africa: We are preparing a specialized shipment of supplies destined for disabled children in Cameroon, which is currently at our warehouse awaiting pickup. Additionally, Medical Missionaries proudly supported a recent medical trip to a remote Cameroonian village, ensuring local care teams had the vital supplies they needed to treat patients.
- Afghanistan & Beyond: We recently donated equipment and supplies to an incredible new organization founded by an Afghan refugee. Their inspiring mission is to establish local medical clinics for underserved populations in Virginia, Maryland, and Arizona. We look forward to providing ongoing aid to this wonderful project as it grows.
- Grundy, Virginia: Our most recent delivery trip to southwest Virginia was a huge success! A massive shoutout and thank you to MM Volunteer Tim Smith, who drove the entire distance to ensure the delivery arrived safely. The non-perishable food, hygiene supplies, baby items, and financial contributions processed through our Manassas office went straight to work restocking the Rocklick Food Pantry, keeping their shelves supplied for the local community. Check out our website for a list of needed items.
